AcreTrader can be a great investing platform for accredited investors looking for direct exposure to U.S. farmland specifically. What stands out most is how thoroughly each parcel is vetted. Only about 5% of farms reviewed are accepted onto the platform, which speaks to the discipline of the underwriting team. The platform isn’t trying to be a one-stop alternative-asset shop; it’s focused on land, which is great for investors who want that specific asset class. Their dual return mechanism (annual cash rent plus long-term appreciation) is genuinely compelling. The tradeoffs here are illiquidity and the accredited-investor gate, but for the audience this platform serves, it’s a fair price for the asset quality.
Pros:
- Access to passive farmland investing opportunities.
- Potential revenue from ongoing farm operations.
- User-friendly platform with multiple account types.
Cons:
- Available only to accredited investors.
- High minimum investments are required for participation.
- Investments are illiquid with long holding periods.

How We Evaluated AcreTrader
Our evaluation of AcreTrader focused on the value, transparency, and structure of its farmland and timberland offerings for accredited investors. We assessed the platform’s regulatory standing, its track record since founding in 2018, and the rigor of its underwriting process, which accepts only a single-digit percentage of farms reviewed. We also weighed due diligence depth, educational resources, and how AcreTrader compares to alternative farmland and fractional real estate platforms.
